Position Summary

Rise Up, based at the Public Health Institute, is seeking a full time Development Manager to be based in our office in Oakland, CA.

Rise Up advances health, education, and equity by enabling girls, youth, and women to transform their own lives, communities, and countries. Rise Up invests in visionary leaders, local organizations, and innovative solutions to achieve large-scale change in 14 countries across Africa, Latin America, South Asia, and the US. Since 2009, Rise Up’s powerful network of over 500 leaders has directly benefited 7 million girls, youth, and women, and advocated for over 100 laws and policies impacting 115 million people globally.

Rise Up is seeking an experienced Development Manager to play a vital role in our 11-person team at an exciting moment of growth and expansion. Reporting to the Senior Advisor of External Affairs, the Development Manager will be responsible for institutional fundraising and relationship-building with foundation and corporate partners. The Development Manager will expand institutional fundraising at Rise Up and collaborate closely in program design and reporting to ensure alignment of development and program priorities. Rise Up is at an exciting place as we expand into additional focus countries with new funders, and the Development Manager will have the opportunity to contribute to shaping this funding growth and direction.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities:

Development

  • Support the Senior Advisor of External Affairs in the development of a 3-to-5 year development strategy including restricted and flexible institutional funding, and unrestricted funding
  • Design and implement an institutional fundraising plan, including creating new strategies to increase giving from current funders and to increase the number of new institutional donors
  • Participate in creating and managing relationships with new and prospective institutional funders
  • Lead development and writing of proposals and reports
  • Develop an annual institutional development calendar

Marketing and Communications

  • Represent Rise Up in relevant networks, coalitions, and key partnerships
  • Speak on behalf of Rise Up at strategic events and convenings
  • Provide input into the development of communications campaigns and marketing materials
Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor’s Degree is required. A Master’s Degree is strongly preferred.
  • A Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in non-profit development
  • Outstanding written communication and editing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communications skills, with the ability to work well in a team and build relationships with people from a diversity of backgrounds
  • Entrepreneurial drive and excellent project management skills, with the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong public speaking skills
  • Deep commitment to women’s and girls’ empowerment globally
  • Willingness and ability to travel 10-20% of the time, both domestically and internationally
  • Familiarity with major institutional funders is strongly preferred
  • International work experience is strongly preferred
  • Spanish fluency is strongly preferred

Compensation:

This is an exempt position and the salary is commensurate with experience. PHI offers a generous benefits package including medical, dental, vision, short/long term disability insurance, life insurance, 403b (group retirement annuity) and partial subsidy of public transportation cost.
